Spinning Wheel -- Part Three

Happy May Day!

Do any of you remember
May Day baskets?
I don't think many do that any more....
Oh the memories....ha ha!

Loving fiber art as much as I do,
it seemed only fitting that
I collect sheep.
Which I did for quite sometime.
Not so much any more....
Simplify....
remember.

This little sheep is one of the survivors
that stayed on board in the studio.
I did not make this one....
I purchased it from a talented
artist at an art festival.
Isn't she cute?
My husband thinks she is weird looking....
me?
I think she is beautiful!
As we all have our very own beauty....

The last three of my spinning wheels
I will be showing you
are what I call my "working" wheels.
They are Ashford wheels and
I enjoy spinning on each of them for different reasons.

This one is the "Elizabeth".

I call her my "Cadillac" of wheels.
It is soooo smooth in it's rhythm
and is very relaxing
(I seem to say that a lot)
to spin on.

No story with this....
There are many wheels out there to purchase.
I found the Ashford brand and loved it.
I was a Ashford dealer a few years ago
when I had a working studio.
I would sell the wheels and give lessons
to each that purchased one.  It was fun!

Teaching is one of my favorite things to do.
People tell me I should sell my things but
I think that would take all the fun out of it....

I just tell them --
I won't sell my items....
but I will teach you how to make your own.
I think that is more fun for both of us!

Happy Spinning, my friends!

The little sheep is so beautiful!

I'm sure your students had learned a lot from you and they found their happiness in spinning too.

Your sheep doll is quite unique I don't think I've ever seen one before. She looks like she is about to sing a very beautiful song.

I can tell how much your wheels mean to you when you write about them. I've never heard one spin but I can certainly imagine that it would be a very soothing sound. Having you for a teacher would make me very eager to learn.
Happy Tuesday

I thought of Mary's little lamb because she looks like she's ready to head off to school. She is very sweet. ♥♫

I think the little sheep is adorable. How neat that you used to sell the wheels and teach people how to spin. I think your right, sometimes selling your wares does take all the fun and personal pleasure out of it. What a great idea to teach people to make their own!

i have to vote with your hubby on the weird on this one, but I do give her a big CUTE instead of beautiful. one thing is you will never ever be bored with life with all your talents that you have. very good to teach others to do these things so the art is not lost

Your little sheep is darling! I think she'd be great company. :)
I'm not familiar with May Day baskets, but when we moved to Belgium, I was introduced to a wonderful tradition there - a husband or sweetheart picks Lily of the Valley and gives them to his wife or girl friend. I had carried some in my wedding bouquet, so they were already special to me. I'm happy to be growing them now - though they bloom much earlier than May 1st here!

These wheels are a thing of beauty, like an object of art all by themselves. What a fabulous idea to teach spinning to new buyers. How much does a wheel cost, I bet they are quite expensive. And do they need any kind of upkeep?

I think your lamb is very cute!! Your wheel is very pretty. It is fun to show others so that they can have the fun making it too.

Well, pooh to your hubbie - I love that little sheep, such a cutie in such a pretty dress.

I am a former teacher too, and I have to agree - it is so rewarding to help others learn themselves.

Beautiful spinning wheel.

It is such a cute little sheep! And I believe that it must be very rewarding to teach others all the things you know!

I use that same approach with Michael all of the time...I won't do for you but I will help you do it yourself! It brings joy to the teacher and the student, I believe! Your passion about your wheels just jumps off of the monitor...may the activity always bring you peace and calm. Happy May Day.
