Yesterday was one of my favorite get togethers....
This month's selection was
I enjoyed this book.
However, I had to have a
different mind set
while I read this.
It is very dark humor and in
our book club many disliked it and
were offended by it.
I knew it would be an odd read when
I started so I was ready!
I thought it was funny (in an odd way)
and had many hidden meanings of life.
How different people act in poverty and
still have so much pride.
I would recommend this book but as I
said be prepared for a different type of read.
Have you read it?
What did you think?
You know what they say....
So I am off to grab a cup of
coffee and finish reading
Anna Karenina!
Awesome book!
Awesome book!
Happy Reading!

I am an avid reader, but only what I love to read. i have never joined a book club because of reading books i don't want to read. i saw the movie Tobacco road if that counts. LOL. I read to escape, i stared reading at 8 years old and it is my escape valve. when i get upset and can't deal with daily life, i get a good can't put it down book and run away from my life. i can't relate to Mr parkers quote becaue i read to stop my thinking. i have a thinkers fretter and use reading to turn it off.
Sounds interesting in a different kind of way. I have never been a real book reader, although sometimes I would like to be but then I am like I dont have the time to actually sit down and read, lol I save those things for plane or car trips to Texas :-) Now I can read a craft book in no time LOL
Have a great day Beth,
Diana
I haven't read it yet but when you mentioned it has a dark sense of humour I was intrigued right away!
I will have to get a copy.

I know that is a famous book, but I have never had the urge to read it. I'm glad you managed to get something from it, though!
When I was a teenager, believe it or not, I used to belong to about ten of those mail order book clubs. The old kind where you would join and get a whole lot of books for a pittance, then you would have to buy three in the next year at regular prices. One was Doubleday Book Club, one was for crafting books, one for cookbooks...do you remember those? I don't think they exist anymore.
This book does sound interesting. Kind of like a movie you have to be in the right mind set for!
I have heard of this book but haven't read it yet; I'm going to get it from the library if possible.
I read Anna Karenina many years ago and I loved it.
No I have to admit I have not read it. sandie
I haven't read it...actually I haven't had much time to read anything except blogs lately...I started The Last Lecture with Randy Pausch, but haven't gotten very far!
I read Tobacco Road when we first moved to New Mexico 15 years ago. I was a hip urban midwesterner and my contact with poverty was limited and VERY different from the book's. NM is one of the poorest states in the country, mostly rural, and I have often thought back on that book and appreciated it for its raw genuineness...especially the humor.
I've actually never heard of this book. But it sounds interesting, and now I'm curious what it's about, especially since it's one of those "have to be in the right mind set" reads :) Thanks for sharing!

The title alone intrigues me. I'm writing this on June 8th, is that date important to you? HB Beth!
